Stuart Parker is looking for love. He goes on the occasional date, but none of the guys want to stick around. If they bother to show up at all. On the rare times a date has come to his house, Stuart’s diva cat didn’t exactly give him a warm welcome. He swears the cat is purposefully sabotaging his love life by hissing, growling, and even hiding his condoms and new underwear.

Si isn’t your typical house cat. He’s been trying to work up the courage to tell Stu the truth for a year, but how do you tell your human mate that you’re not the feline that you appear to be?

After being stood up yet again, Stuart’s brother Keiran takes him to Purrs nightclub, where Kei is the assistant manager. When Stu meets one of the club’s owners, Silas, he’s struck still. Besides being the most beautiful man Stuart has ever seen, the collar he’s wearing looks an awful lot like the one Stu designed for his cat.

You know, his cat named Si.

Life suddenly takes a drastic turn for both human and feline. Has that elusive happily-ever-after Stuart’s been searching for been right under his nose the whole time? Will he run in the opposite direction when he discovers who his pet really is?

Each book in the Purrs series takes place during the same time period. Details from one story may be expanded upon in another. Some events in a previous book might not have taken place yet in a subsequent book.

The books in the Purrs series cannot be read as standalones. While each one focuses on a new couple, their stories are all linked to the series as a whole. Some secondary characters may seem insignificant in one book and be quite significant in another.

Note that past sexual abuse is discussed briefly in Silas (Purrs, #1). While nothing is on-page, this may trigger some readers. Keep this in mind before downloading the book.

Review:

I’m a Candi Kay fan. She writes an often quirky, fun story, and Silas is full of fun with kitty shifters thrown in. Stuart found a cat in the local park about a year ago and his love life has been anything but full since that mutual adoption. Coincidence? Me thinks not. His kitty, Si, loves his owner. Loves him so much he makes sure Stuart struggles to find his car keys on date night and Si isn’t above hissing and growling at anyone Stuart even thinks about bringing home. And yes, Si does hide condoms, or shred them, and Stuart’s underwear as well. Crazy mem-ories for me, not the condoms, not that I knew of. Maybe. But the undies, hell yes! I couldn’t help but laugh because my gorgeous, crazy black cat Oscar used to love nicking people’s undies in our family household. Especially men’s. He’d often be seen meowing and dragging undies into the backyard where he’d dance on them then try to bury them. He was an awesome cat who passed away when I was in my twenties. The best cat I ever owned, Oscar was a major pacifist with other animals, but underwear was fair game to him. So Si had me remembering and laughing.

My merriment about memories aside, Stuart is starting to really believe there is something unlovable about himself. That he’ll never meet a man. Cats are great companions and all, but, well, you know. Hmmm. Actually funny thing is, they can be both a man and a cat all in one. It’s sounds like a nifty invention. Stuart just needs to know about it. Stuart’s brother decides to help out by bringing him to Purrs, the hot night club Kieran works at right alongside the Kitt family. Let’s put it this way, the Kitts’ provide plenty of brothers and one sister to fill up the next series books in this club. Stuart sees the brothers going all Magic Mike up on stage at Purrs, with Silas a lead dancer, and he can’t take his eyes off him. But Silas has a collar which means he must be owned by someone. Like a kink thing. Ah hello, it’s just like the one Stuart gave him as Si the kitty cat… but Silas is out of his league and he isn’t looking at the collar as much as the man. We hear you, Stuart. We hear you 🙂

While Stuart is inactive in the bedroom department so is Silas. As Stuart is his mate he’s nervous about how Stuart will handle that piece of information. It’s out of character for Silas as he liked a hook-up or three before the mate shtick hit him. What if Stuart doesn’t like the whole kitty shifter thing? So he keeps it to himself while sabotaging. Naughty kitty.

There isn’t much I can write about Silas without spoiling the whole story, it’s only 114 pages, but it’s a fun, sweet, drama-free reading zone. The concept of kitty shifters is cute. I have this tagged as paranormal on the blog but it’s a contemporary gay romance with cat shifters. There is a little world building, a little sexy, a few laughs, and just one big, easy reading experience. Nice for the end of a long day or weekend reading with a cuppa. I enjoyed this book. I liked the MCs, the secondary characters have potential moving forward. I had a few laughs and I was smiling at the overall story and the outcome for Stuart and Si(las). Cute. Fluffy – literally – easy reading, I’m now looking forward to the rest of the Purrs series. 4 Stars.
