Hunter Penn

One hellish moment. One painful decision. And everything radically changed.

Years later, I’ve adjusted to my new life as a P.I. when a long-bearded, red-headed guy walks into an alley. The same dark alley where I’m having a talk with the armed men who were following me. The encounter is brief and bloody and ends with him winking at me as he drives away.

My curiosity—and some tailing—brings us together again…or so I thought. He wants to work with me, and despite my lack of trust in the rest of the human population, I recognize his impressive skills and need his help to find out who’s been trying to kill me.

He calls me Grizzly, Papa Bear, Yogi. His incessant flirting, impish disposition, and sexy triple-dimpled smile drive me mad. Until I force him to his knees—and what a sight that is.

Who’d have guessed I am into men in lingerie?

But when he unexpectedly asks for my help, I discover a new side to him, and finally, I know what he is.

Mine.

Mine.

Mine.

I don’t care if he thinks he’s broken. Who isn’t?

I don’t care about his family’s side business. I have a damn big skeleton hanging in my closet.

I don’t even care if my days are numbered. He makes it worth every single moment.

The only thing that matters is being near him.

Protecting him.

Showing him who he belongs to.

WARNING-This is not a sci-fi angel story, unless you see eager vigilantes with a dark side as angels.

This is an action packed, dark themed romance with an interracial couple, an HEA and no cliffhangers. It features an impish, sassy, persistent hacker and a big, brawny, broken Bear. There’s violence, blood, torture (only of very bad people), dark humor, a band of foster-brothers and very rough, spicy and fem kinky scenes (check this kink before you buy it). Morality’s grey area is quite stretched in this story. Please check the triggers at the beginning of the book.

This is book three in the Angels of Wrath Series. Each book follows a different couple.

Review –

“Sometimes, you need to dirty yourself up to wash away the filth surrounding you.”

This, like the books before it, starts with a quickie prologue describing things that happened to Ramiel, aka Rami, when he was kidnapped as a child, and experimented on by two deranged scientists. He, along with his foster brothers, was rescued by Megan, a forensic psychiatrist, and Linda, a former CIA agent. Raphael, Michael, and Raguel’s stories were told in books #1 and #2. Gabe and Uri and Sari still have their stories to come, though there are a couple of other books in the mix that confuse me. Who is left after the ones I mentioned? I guess I’ll find out if I continue with the series.

Rami is a tech genius. He’s a hacker and videogame creator, among other things. Serena, the AI who is an important part of all the books, is Rami’s baby. He created her when he was younger, and improved her over time.

“Serena, let me know if Hunter leaves the house.”

“Yes, Daddy.”

“Darling, please stop calling me that.” My voice has taken on a pleading tone.

“But you created me, therefore you are my daddy, aren’t you?” Her reasoning has no faults, but…

Rami is also part of a side thing with his brothers and mothers. Let’s just say the guys are all avenging angels of sorts, angels of wrath, even having been named after angels by Meg.

Hunter Penn is a former cop, ex-con, and current private investigator. He and Rami meet when someone Rami is following attempts to kill Hunter. Hunter can handle himself just fine, but Rami jumps in and helps anyway.

It has absolutely nothing at all to do with Rami wanting to get in Hunter’s pants. 😉

Oh, it totally does.

After that night, they both not so secretly investigate, follow, and stalk each other.

Apparently somebody has a hit out on Hunter, who Rami now has an obsession with. They almost immediately jump into a sexual relationship while trying to find out who wants Hunter dead.

I’m just going to say it… I absolutely HATED the sex in this book. The first two books were a lot little much, but it was okay for the most part, though I did find myself wanting to skim some of the sex scenes because there were so many. This one? OMG, I was ready to DNF and throw my brand new Kindle at the same time. I honestly felt like I was reading 360 pages of a poorly written hetero erotica book. Do you know what’s not sexy in M/M books when the two guys are having sex? Pussy, cunt, tits. I guess some people may like it, but I’m not one of them. If I wanted to read M/F, I’d read M/F.

The entire book was sex. At first, I thought it might be good, even when the other books have been seriously over the top up to this point. Rami wears lace panties, something I’ve always thought was sexy. But it didn’t stop with Rami wearing lace panties. It was like the author was trying to justify Hunter being with a man by throwing out all the feminine slang and the lace, which would make zero sense because Hunter seemed to be out. He didn’t give a damn what anybody thought. It was implied that he developed the kink while in prison.

The scene that really did me in was when Rami was wearing a purple bra and panty set. It was the dialogue, not the actual lingerie.

“Wrap your arms back around my neck, just like that. Show me those big tits. Fuck, that bra is so damn sexy,” Hunter whispers and I can hear the hunger in every word.

Hell, this man pussy kink keeps getting better and hotter. I feel on fucking fire.

I am not kink shaming, would never kink shame, but all this did for me personally was have me rolling my eyes.

All men have an asshole, but only the best bottoms have a good pussy.

~

“I’m going to seed this pussy so full, your belly will get round.”

~

It’s official, I’m a muscular bottom, who adores having his man pussy used by his grizzly.

~

“I will snack on this pussy and then breed it like a mindless junkyard dog in heat.” He rumbles each word against my hole.

The above quotes are only a very small glimpse of what’s in the book.

Rami also constantly talks about the color of Hunter’s skin, the size of his penis, and other stereotypical stuff. I got second-hand embarrassment reading it.

Rami has a condition that makes him numb. He can’t feel, taste, or smell except during certain circumstances, with sex being one. Spilling blood and killing bad guys is the other. After the high of the sex and violence, he goes back to feeling nothing. This condition is as a result of the torture he endured in the secret facility as a child. The author states in the beginning of the book that his condition is completely fictional, and not an actual condition in the real world. Okay, that was interesting. You know what wasn’t? That Bam! one time hooking up with ‘Hunter and his magical ten-inch dick!’ and he was cured. Come on now. There’s suspending belief, and then there’s being ridiculous.

Sometimes, I think I have a vicious succubus living inside of me, feeding on my senses, only coming out to play when there’s blood or pleasure involved. I just can’t deny the impulsive sucker.

There are obviously some things I liked about the book or I’d have rated it lower.

The pet names in this one, Grizzly and Papa Bear for Hunter, and Red for Rami, weren’t bad.

I’ll never get over Piglet, I swear. 😉

I loved seeing all the other brothers and Lori come together as a unit and help save the day.

The mystery of who was trying to kill Hunter, while not a surprise, was written okay.

The triplets. Ren, Ash, and Dare were taken in by Hunter after he got out of jail. They cracked me up, and I look forward to seeing more of them in future books.

I loved learning the story behind how Serena, Rami’s AI, came to be.

Rami loves to quote animal facts, which I found cute. At one point, while Rami’s in the middle of dealing with one of the ‘donors’ he mentions a strike bird. I’m going to assume he meant shrike, or maybe it’s also called strike, and I just wasn’t aware?

Rami has three tortoises. That part I liked. The names of said tortoises? Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe. To each their own, I guess.

This could’ve easily been the best book in the series so far. Private eye, tech genius who jumps in to help him find a killer. It sounded really good to me when I read the blurb. I swear I’m going to stop saying how much I love a character, and how I can’t wait to read their story. It seems like every single time I do, I get disappointed. That was definitely the case with Rami’s book.

I won’t even get started on the !!!! overload or the length of the book because those are obviously common for this author.

The case of the missing teenagers from the previous books is still open. I’m guessing we’ll know who the elusive Phoenix is in the last book.

It’s been a while since I’ve been interested enough to read a series to completion. I’m determined to finish this one. Even so, if I wasn’t curious about Gabe and Lori and Uri and Sari, this would be the end of the road for me. I’d just chalk it up to yet another set of books that didn’t work. There’s been too much buildup for those guys to stop now.

It’s more like 2 stars, but because of the brothers, Lori, and the triplets, I’m giving it 3.

I’m off to read the next one, hoping the author does right by Lori and Gabe. Having read the blurb, I’m not getting my hopes up.
