Henri has a policy of not interfering with human affairs—he’s a courier of souls, no more, no less—until he happens upon a boy who reminds him there is goodness and light amidst the sorrow.
Orlando is in a vulnerable situation when Henri intercedes on his behalf and initiates the bond between them. Despite being punished in the past for similar transgressions, Henri finds himself getting more entangled in Orlando’s life over the years, doling out “justice” to those who mean to harm his beloved friend.
In time, Orlando ages into a beautiful young man with agency all his own, and he harbors desires only Henri can satisfy.
But there are grave consequences for the mortal and divine when they consort with one another, and the gods will have their sacrifice.
The first of a trilogy, Book of Orlando is a work of adult, erotic fiction. It contains violence and moral ambiguity.

Thank you, Dom. I’m really glad you enjoyed the podcast style review 🙂
I tend to avoid books with anything religion, but this one sounds amazing. I love how Henri and Orlando first meet when Orlando is young and moves forward over the years. It’s obvious how much you really enjoyed this book. I’m eager to read your review of the next one. Your visuals are, as always, fantastic.
Great review, Karen.
Yes, this is one fantastic story. Henri and Orlando are unforgettable so I’m both nervous and excited about the next books.
Thanks, Cindi 🙂

[…] Book of Orlando was my Book of the Year last year because it was the brilliant start of a fascinating and dark trilogy. Master’s Schiavo is another incredible read. The first 4 books on this list were so close to being #1 for good reason. Gio and Valentin are memorable for a lot of reasons. There is a dark and brooding quality to the story and the storytelling. Laura Lascarso is the queen of moral ambiguity and the psychological. She pushes boundaries in the most lyrical of ways. That is on display in Master’s Schiavo as well. This book is not a cookie cutter story from the age gap to the ending. […]
