Saying No has to stop!

Heath’s negative attitude leads to the loss of his boyfriend, his job and the place he calls home. Now he’s determined to be a yes guy. Yes, he’d love to flat sit while the owner is away, though one look at the horrendous mess and after a painful tussle with a belligerent cat, he wishes he’d stuck to his usual no.

No is the last thing Tristan expects to hear when he proposes in front of his boyfriend’s friends and family. Humiliated, he hides out in his brother’s empty flat without asking, because does he really need to hear another no?

What he needs is a guy who’ll say yes…yes…yes… Could that be Heath?

Review:

This was an adorable little package of joy to the world. A good size at 139 Kindle pages, it was insta everything and it just plain worked. A very short review because otherwise it gives the tale away.

Heath is an accountant. He lost both parents when young, had a shitty extended family. He’s also just found out at the work’s party that his boyfriend, Diego, has been shtooping Heath’s boss. So now he has no boyfriend and no job, and right before Christmas. Diego dumps him because he thinks Heath is full of “no.” Boo, Diego! You created a number of those nos. Heath could say yes, he just needed the right environment and person to say yes to.

Across town, Tristan just asked his boyfriend, Grant, to marry him and he said no in a way an entitled twat would. Embarrassing Tristan in front of friends at another party.

Unbeknownst to one another, both converge on a flat via a friend of Heath’s and also via the fact that it’s Tristan’s brother’s place. It was fun the way that happened. A moment of sliding doors… and a bathtub.

“You’ve probably used all the hot water,” Tristan said. “I was looking forward to a bath. I’m a bit chilled. Can I get in?”
“Yes.” Oh fuck, did I say that? And so fast as well! The word had slipped past his brain’s quality control. But I said yes. I did! And he was glad. Brave new world here I come!

The usual BE humour is on display. An emotional little tug as well. Some snow makes an appearance too. The result is two sweet men finding one another with a little Christmas magic. A lot of people feel Christmas is a magical time, and I enjoyed the way Elsborg wrote with that in mind in this charming story. It’s a magical bite with a cute as a button story and characters, complete with an epilogue. 4 Stars!
