Devour is a full-length action/revenge MM romance with grumpy/sunshine, hurt/comfort, and found family vibes. This book does touch on dark, heavy themes, so please check trigger warnings.

Dante

My dream of becoming a principal dancer was shattered the night I witnessed my father’s murder.

Now, nothing will stop me from exacting revenge on the masked figures responsible.

Not even some cocky silver-haired COO of a private military company who thinks he knows what’s best for me.

He makes my blood heat in the worst way possible with his superficial charm and distracting looks.

He makes me crave what I can’t allow myself to have.

He’s convinced he can win me over, but if he doesn’t quit stalking me and stealing my kills, he’s gonna end up with my butterfly knife buried in his stupid mercenary heart.

Rev

My pretty hunter thinks he’s a killer.

But he’s not predisposed to spilling blood like me.

Sure, he’s prickly, stabby, and skilled in self-defense.

However, I see right through to the sensitive, vulnerable side he tries to hide.

He may not believe he needs me to be his grim reaper, but permission isn’t something I’m asking for. I won’t hesitate to cut down anyone who threatens him, no matter the size of their operation or the severity of their threats.

Baby boy can pretend to hate me all he wants.

It doesn’t change the fact that he’s mine.

Review:

Your guardian angel, or the devil, here to drag you to hell. I’ll let you decide.

New to me author but I took a gamble. Worked out well. It’s always good when that happens. The cover kept following me all over Goodreads and Amazon so I bought it because it sounded like me. The book sits in the morally grey area, love those two words, but I personally don’t agree that this is an especially dark novel. Thematically I suppose it is, but the execution makes it much more, as the kids like to say, Baby Doll and Daddy. Daddy is not used, it’s kind of implied, Baby Doll is definitely used by Rev for Dante. Check the author’s CW.

Rev Kotkas: I loved him. He made this book for me. He is living, breathing consent for days whilst also being an obsessive about Dante. He’s a mercenary working for Sinro Enterprises, a company that does private protection and hires mostly from the armed services. The usual. They also look out for the ‘good guys’ while taking out the ‘bad guys,’ and that’s how Rev discovers Dante. Dante is “hunting” members of a gang called SIXX – I’m using quotes because Dante is incapable of hunting anyone. They wear demonic masks and Dante knows they’re responsible for killing his father. It was the final straw for him, seeing his father shot. However, Rev is also after them, clocking someone else who is clearly far less experienced than he is after the same prey. Why is that? Rev’s interest was activated. Of course, Dante is cute, and like similar books, the so called “psycho” is instantly in love and will do anything for their obsession. It’s a formula I knew I was getting when I grabbed the book. No complaints from this quarter. Rev is all kinds of awesome. I loved his chapters. Glenn created one interesting character when she wrote him. I do love a morally grey character who is also obsessive.

Dante Álvarez: Honestly, he’s aggravating for a while but that was the the point of the MC pairing. He hates that his life has been one move after another. Loss. Not much normalcy as he grew up. Outside of ballet, it’s just been fear. So Dante has attitude and Rev loves it. The harder Dante pushes, the more Rev wants him. It’s easy to understand that Dante has been hurt and is scared because both his mum and dad, or Papi, have been executed by a cartel group. SIXX is a splinter group off the original cartel.

I shake my head. I don’t want to hide. I don’t want to run anymore. I want to stay here. I want to carry on living like we’re a normal fucking family with dance practices and fight nights and family dinners.

Dante and his brother, Laz, are close. I liked Laz, he looked out for Dante. They live pretty rough and do whatever it takes to pay the rent without any family except each other. Dante doesn’t question what Laz does, except it’ll be based around mixed martial arts. Dante pole dances at what I’d say is a strip club but he doesn’t actually take his clothes off. He just wears the bare minimum. Rev does like the sexy manties he wears though. Dante to-and-fros as to whether he can actually kill someone and this was where I was like, come on, leave it up to Rev, he’s got your back!

Overall:

I read Devour really quickly. It’s pure escapist entertainment. I didn’t read book #1 but I’ll probably go back and give it a read. You do have to suspend belief – the thoughtful but caring psycho is unbelievable, but do I enjoy the trope? Yes, I do. There’s also plenty of action. There’s romance. I had a fun time reading it, Rev is all kinds of awesome – just saying – so for Devour it’s 4 Stars!
